Swan Hill Rural City Council is thrilled to announce the commencement of construction for a brand-new playground at the Robinvale Riverfront. This project, a cornerstone of the Robinvale Riverfront Masterplan, promises to deliver an engaging, inclusive, and innovative play space for children and families.

Council’s Director Development and Planning, Michelle Grainger said that construction was set to begin on 9 December 2024.

“The exciting new playground will feature a range of dynamic and interactive elements, including a double twist slide, play tower with an all-abilities accessible ramp, interactive play elements, tunnel mound, sandpit, swings, a junior combination play element shaped like a Murray Cod, water-play features, bounce pads, connecting footpaths, landscaping with trees, plants, and lawn areas, as well as shade sails and Lily Pad shade shelters,” Ms Grainger said.

Ms Grainger said prioritising incorporating cultural significance into the playground design, Council has invited First Nations artists to submit artwork proposals for the final design stage.

“We have received a range of powerful submissions, which are now being evaluated. The selected pieces will celebrate and honour the rich heritage of the region’s First Nations communities,” she added.

Ms Grainger emphasised that providing shade had been a key consideration in the playground’s design.

“The playground will include shade through sails and Lily Pad style shade structures, with additional shade trees planted as part of the landscaping. It will also feature an all-abilities swing and a ramp-accessible play tower, complemented by interpretive signage along the footpath network.

“While a public toilet is not part of the initial construction, it will be added when funding becomes available, likely within the 2025/26 budget. The playground area will not be fenced, but solar lighting will be installed along the footpath for visibility and safety,” she said.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Stuart King said the vibrant play precinct represented Council’s vision for a connected and thriving community.

“This new precinct will offer a safe and engaging environment for families and visitors to enjoy for years to come. This project reflects our strong commitment to community-driven development and enhancing Robinvale’s riverfront precinct – we can’t wait to watch this space transform,” Mayor King said.

This project is proudly funded through the Victorian State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund – Community Facilities.
