Swan Hill Rural City Council is calling on contractors to be part of a transformative project addressing the critical housing shortage for key workers in Robinvale.

Council’s Acting CEO, Michelle Grainger, announced that a local demolition contractor had already been appointed to commence preliminary works at the surplus site at 3 McCartney Court, Robinvale, with demolition set to begin in the coming weeks.

“This innovative project, funded by a State Government grant, will see the construction of 10 modern dwellings, offering a mix of two- and three-bedroom units. These homes will be leased under a five-year agreement to key workers at Robinvale, ensuring stable and affordable housing for essential workers.

Ms Grainger added the Robinvale Key Worker Accommodation project addressed the urgent need for at least 60 additional beds for key workers, as highlighted at the Swan Hill Housing Summit.

“By providing quality housing, the initiative will directly improve recruitment and retention for essential businesses across Robinvale, enhancing and fostering long-term economic growth,” she added.

Ms Grainger said the project was expected to create jobs during the construction phase and improve liveability in the health and education sectors.

“This development represents a vital investment in the community, addressing immediate housing needs while contributing to the region’s economic resilience and social wellbeing,” she said.

Council is now seeking contractors to deliver this essential project, with tenders anticipated on the following dates:

  • Construction of the dwellings: from February to March
  • Civil and development works:  from March to April.

Ms Grainger encouraged contractors to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to a significant project that will have a lasting positive impact on the Robinvale community for years to come.
