In response to safety concerns raised by user groups of the Swan Hill Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve regarding drivers dangerously taking shortcuts through the area, Council will install removable bollards between the Swan Hill Show Society office and the seating around the oval.
Director of Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, explained that Council has explored various options to address the safety concerns while ensuring the area remains usable for all the different user groups.
"To prioritise community safety, removable bollards have been determined as the most effective option,”
“We are aware of the concerns regarding the bollards during large events, which is why removable bollards have been selected,” said Ms Johnston.
Ms. Johnston stated that the bollards are removable upon request but will remain in place to prevent motorists from driving through this area, significantly reducing the risk to pedestrians.
“When events such as the Central Murray Football League (CMFL) Grand Final or the Swan Hill Show are on, arrangements can be made with Council to have the bollards temporarily removed,” she added.
Council will be on site this week to install the bollards. Users of the facility, including community groups have been notified, and are supportive of this solution.
