Swan Hill Rural City Council is pleased to announce that almost $5 million in funding has been secured through the Safer Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLIP) to upgrade Karinie Street between the Nyah Road roundabout and Murlong Street.
Council’s Mayor, Cr Stuart King said the project was an essential investment in the region’s road infrastructure.
“Tens of millions of dollars of industrial trade is generated by businesses in and around Karinie Street every year. This investment recognises the value of that trade.
“This project will deliver road infrastructure, kerb and channel replacement, an all-abilities shared pathway, and improved road line marking and parking delineation.
“These upgrades will significantly enhance road safety, accessibility, and traffic management,” Cr King said.
Cr King said the existing road surface is in extremely poor condition, and the pavement has reached the end of its lifespan.
“This upgrade will improve safety, accessibility, and efficiency for all road users, while also supporting local businesses and the broader local economy.
Council will now undertake the preparation of concept and detailed designs to ensure the best outcome is achieved.
Cr King assures the community that extensive consultation with local businesses, transport operators and the community will take place in the lead-up to construction.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Safer Roads and Infrastructure Program and Swan Hill Rural City Council.
