Swan Hill Regional Library is thrilled to welcome back acclaimed author Darry Fraser to discuss her latest novel, The Night on the Darling River, on Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at 7pm.

The novel is primarily set in Echuca during 1894, exploring Australia’s colonial past. Through the voice of the main character, Tess Hawthorn, a stoic young woman, readers are taken on an adventure filled with resilience, love, and the quest for freedom.

Swan Hill Regional Libraries Manager Camille Cullinan explains that they expect the audience to engage with both the author and her novel, The Night on the Darling River. The book explores a range of themes, including survival and resilience, social and industrial conflict, while connecting readers to the natural beauty along the Murray River.

"We have been fortunate to have Darry Fraser visit us several times, and each time, we have witnessed the deep connection she instantly forms with the audience. During her childhood, she lived in Swan Hill for a short period, where she developed a fascination with the Murray River.

"Darry's connection to this area, along with her understanding of the generational challenges that have shaped our resilient culture, allows her to engage deeply with the local audience."

As Ms. Cullinan explains, "We like to think of Darry Fraser as one of our own!"

Courtesy of Collins Booksellers, Swan Hill, The Night on the Darling River will be available for purchase during the evening for $29.99 each. Darry will be available for book signings.
