Swan Hill Rural City Council’s free green waste weekend is being hailed a success following a combined 337 visits across the municipality.

On the last weekend of October each year residents can drop-off clean green waste like grass clippings, leaves, small branches, weeds, and garden pruning’s to our Landfills in Swan Hill and Robinvale free of charge. These materials are compostable and can be recycled into mulch or compost, which helps reduce landfill use and supports environmental sustainability.

The initiative is the perfect timing to prepare for the warmer months ahead.

Director of Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, praised the community's strong engagement with the initiative, highlighting its success and the positive response from residents.

“Our team is really pleased with the result, and we are proud to offer this service free of charge for our community, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment,” Ms Johnston said.

Ms Johnston also noted that valuable insights were gathered from participants, including how they learned about the event and their understanding of what constitutes clean green waste.

“This information will help guide us in the future when advertising the event and help guide our Waste Management Strategy when developing community education programs.

“We are committed to continuing this popular initiative and ensuring the community has access to convenient waste disposal services, while also promoting proper waste management practices,” she added.
