This October, Swan Hill Regional Library will be supporting community members to get online safely and confidently through a range of fun, digital skills events.

Get Online Week is an Australia-wide digital inclusion campaign organised by Good Things Foundations to reach Aussie’s that might need a bit more assistance in navigating the ever growing and changing digital space.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan says digital skills are an important tool for everyone to have, and the digital skills events are designed to reach people who otherwise may get left behind.

“The digital skills events aim to help people feel confident and safe connecting with loved ones, shopping online or finding a new hobby,” Ms Cullinan said.

“New research reveals two-thirds of Australians aren’t confident in their ability to stay up to date with changes in technology – and we’d like to help bridge that gap,” she added.

Swan Hill Regional Library is offering in-person learner events, including topics such as using search engines, completing online forms, using your device camera, using voice assistance, Google maps, and avoiding common scams – or you can come along with you own questions!

Also included in Get Online Week events is a Scavenger Hunt, where participants are directed to different sites around Swan Hill using QR code and clues – and a chance to win a $100 gift card!

An online presentation will be held, titled “Can you spot a scam?” designed to help participants spot different types of common scams.

And, for a chance to win a $50 gift card, community members can participate in an online quiz “Serious or Scam?” – designed to test participants knowledge!

Learner events will be held on 7 October from 10am to 12pm, 8 October from 2pm to 4pm, and 10 October from 10am to 12pm.

Scavenger Hunt now open, closing 21 October at 2pm, begin anytime at Swan Hill  Library.
