Swan Hill Rural City Council is making significant progress in maintaining and improving its extensive road network, ensuring safer and more reliable travel for residents and visitors.
Council’s Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston said the Council managed road network spanned 885 kilometres of sealed roads, 1,203 kilometres of unsealed formed and sheeted roads, and 1,392 kilometres of unsealed natural surface roads.
“Council has been listening to our community around their concerns with our road network. I am incredibly proud of all the different areas of Council staff delivering services, in particular the roads crews who have completed ongoing maintenance works including 334 kilometres of sealed road shoulder grading and responding to various requests from our community.
“Furthermore, Council has partnered with contractors to complete more substantial works on the sealed road network, including 369,446 square meters of bitumen resealing, 13,023 square meters of asphalt heavy patching.
“On the unsealed road network, 1,276 kilometres of maintenance grading has also been undertaken by Council staff on gravel and natural surface roads, along with 39,018 square meters of gravel re-sheeting,” Ms Johnston said.
Ms Johnston said the achievements reflect Council’s commitment to keeping its roadways safe and accessible.
“Regular maintenance and upgrades are essential to support local communities, industries, and regional connectivity.,” she added.
