Council Secures Funding for Affordable Housing Project

Swan Hill Rural City Council is thrilled to announce its successful application for funding through the Victorian Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund (RWAF). This vital initiative is designed to deliver suitable and affordable housing for regional communities, effectively addressing the pressing need for accommodation for key workers and their families.
Mayor Cr Stuart King announced that the "Enabling Robinvale’s Potential" project aims to construct 10 units, with 8 two-bedroom and 2 three-bedroom units, specifically designed to meet the needs of essential workers in the Robinvale region. This important initiative will be advanced with the help of secured funding and will allow for the redevelopment of the Council owned, former preschool site in McCartney Court in Robinvale.
“This is another crucial step in response to significant housing shortages impacting the region’s ability to attract and retain essential workers, thereby stimulating economic growth and ensuring the delivery of vital services.
“We have been advised that the RWAF program received an overwhelming number of applications from developers statewide, underscoring the critical demand for worker accommodation right across Victoria.
“We are grateful that our application has received the support of the Victorian Government and the crucial need for housing in our region is being supported and acknowledged,” Cr King said.
Cr King said this is a significant win for the Robinvale community and broader region.
“With these new units, we are not only providing much-needed accommodation for our key workers but also investing in the future growth and sustainability of Robinvale.
“Council is committed to ongoing collaboration with the Victorian Government and local stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of this project and to continue addressing housing needs in the region,” he added.
This project is thanks to the Victorian Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.
