Itinerant trading

You will require an itinerant trading permit if you wish to sell, provide goods or services or fundraise on Council land or footpath.

How to apply

Step 1.If you intend to sell food

You will need a FoodTrader Statement of Trade Certificate.

Step 2.Have supporting documents ready

When submitting the application you will need to include:

  • a copy of your current public liability insurance for a minimum of $20 million
  • Provided written approval from the business proprietor (if applicable)
  • FoodTrader Statement of Trade Certificate (if selling food)

What happens next?

  • Please allow 10 business days for processing of your application.
  • If all required documents are not provided, processing may be delayed.
  • If approved you will be issued with an invoice to compete payment and a permit will be issued.

You cannot provide goods or services, or fundraise on Council land or footpath without a valid permit from Council. 

Conditions placed on approved permits

The following are examples of conditions which may be placed on a permit, please be aware this is not a complete list and is dependent upon the type of application:

  • The permit is issued on the condition that the permit holder maintains a policy of public liability insurance to the value of at least $20 million for the entire term of the permit.
  • The trading activity must not pose a hazard or inconvenience to motorists or passers-by.
  • A walkway zone of at least 1.80 metres must remain clear at all times.
  • At the end of trading each day all rubbish is to be removed and the area is to be left in a clean and tidy condition.  Council’s public place bins are not for commercial waste i.e. waste generated from the manufacturing of your products or leftover food waste. The sale of alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  • The permit holder must remove themselves from an area if requested to do so by an Authorised Officer.
  • Council reserves the right to alter or vary the permit at any time. Council will notify the permit holder 7 days before the permit is changed or varied.
