Drinking alcohol in public places is prohibited in many parts of our municipality. A public place can include a road, footpath, public reserve or park.
Prescribed areas with alcohol restrictions in public places:
To find out more information on prescribed areas, refer to Schedules 1 through 11 in the Council’s Community Local Law No. 2.
If you are found to be consuming or in possession of open liquor in a prescribed area during the prohibited times you may be issued with an on-the-spot fine by Council’s Authorised Officers or Victoria Police.
These restrictions do not apply to:
Local businesses who wish to serve liquor in a public place (i.e. on the footpath) for customers, may apply for a permit under the Footpath Trading Scheme.
If you are planning on holding an event, Council may consider providing an exemption or providing an extension on the prescribed time. This will form part of your event application.
