Discover the Milloo Street Wetlands, a serene and inviting space perfect for nature walks, bird watching, and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.

Located just minutes from the town center, this tranquil wetland area offers a peaceful retreat for relaxation and passive recreation.

Come explore and connect with nature in this unique community oasis.

This innovative storm water recycling system was funded by the Australian Government's Community Water Grants Program. This extensive program provides funding opportunities for community organisations to implement practical on-the-ground solutions to, save, reuse or improve the health of local water sources. The Milloo Street constructed wetland system is designed to capture the urban runoff from Swan Hills Main Drain System.

The design includes a series of reed beds, shallow and deep settling ponds. This effective treatment system removes storm water pollutants including fine sediments, nutrients and toxicants, ultimately improving the water quality that is discharged into the Murray River.

This 2.5ha site provides unique opportunities for passive recreational pursuits such as nature walks and bird watching so close to the town centre. Local native vegetation has been planted through the area including River Red Gums, Eumongs, Sedges and Lignum all irrigated by a modern subsurface water recycling system. This dynamic ecosystem now provides a valuable habitat for a diverse range of fauna including wading birds such as swans, ducks and cormorants.

Swan Hill Rural City Council thanks the Australian Government Community Water Grants Fund and all agencies involved in creating the Milloo Street Wetlands.
