Shine Bright - Nyah West Kindergarten

At Nyah West Kindergarten, we are co-researchers with Wadi Wadi/Waddi Waddi Country.  Here, we believe Country holds knowledge, Country is always present, and we want to be with Country every day.

Being outdoors together is pivotal, so we can listen, feel, and think with Country.  We learn to be present here –Country is our teacher.  We celebrate the knowledge that Country offers us, and we notice Place with our senses, bodies, and feelings.  Noticing Place every day teaches us about ourselves, and how we understand the world through our daily interactions and observations.

When we are co-researchers with children in dialogue with Country, we listen and think together.  We ask big questions, and we wonder.  Here, children gather their own ideas and theories of the world and are supported to take risks.  Children become motivated learners through considered programs that attend to a competent child with a strong voice.  Here, children are active and capable citizens of the world.  Democracy, ecology, inclusion, history, and culture are woven within the everyday.  Our program emerges as we investigate and wonder together.

As we learn to live together and live well with the world, families guide us in their knowledge of the child.  We ask questions and listen.  We are dedicated to our community and collaborate closely with families to create and maintain positive, equitable relationships that support mutual trust.

Children ask us to be brave and to think ‘otherwise’, and our kindergarten is a celebration of the multiple ways we come to know the world.  We are a vibrant and connected collective of learners.  Nyah West Kindergarten is our place.
