Council has received a request from Swan Hill Incorporated to continue a Special Rate scheme, to raise funds to promote and develop the region as a place to live, work, invest, shop and visit.
Council considered the proposal at its Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday, 20 November 2018 and resolved to give notice of its intention to declare a Special Rate for the Swan Hill region for a
seven year period and seek feedback on the proposal from those affected.
The proposed Special Rate is to take effect on 1 July 2019 and has the same purpose as the current scheme. It is proposed that, the Special Rate will raise $359,187 in its first year of operation. The total amount raised in each of the subsequent six years will increase by Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Any business operator or property owner that is responsible for payment of the Special Rate can make a written submission in favour of, or against the proposal. If you are an occupier of
a property, you will need to provide documentary evidence with your submission that, it is a condition of your lease that you must pay the Special Rate. Please note that only one
submission per property can be received.
If you have any questions in relation to this matter, please contact Fiona Gormann, Economic and Community Development Manager on (03) 5032 3033.
Please note that the number of properties to be included in the area has been reduced by Council and the attached plan shows the new Special Rate area.
