Cr Gary Norton resigns

Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced that Councillor Gary Norton has tendered his resignation as a Councillor.

Councillor Norton has proudly represented the Murray Mallee Ward since 2003. In that time he served as Mayor of Swan Hill Rural City Council (from December 2006 to December 2008), and has been a strong advocate for our region as the North West Representative of the Municipal Association of Victoria.

Cr Norton thanked the Council and the community for allowing him the privilege of serving as a Councillor.

“This has not been an easy decision, but after a lot of thought and discussions with my family, I feel it’s time for me to take a step back,” he said.

“I look forward to keeping in touch with the community and seeing the continued growth and transformation of Swan Hill Rural City Council.”

Mayor Ann Young thanked Councillor Norton for his dedication and contribution to Council and to the region during his terms.

“Councillor Norton has been an integral member of Council, seeing a number of major projects come to fruition as well as showing a dedicated passion for the Mallee,” she said.

“On behalf of Council I would like to thank Cr Norton for his service and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Cr Norton’s last day with Council will be 31 March 2019.

The Victorian Electoral Commission will manage the process of electing a new Councillor to the Murray Mallee Ward.
