Event organisers, community groups and sporting clubs can now apply for up to $5,000 through Swan Hill Rural City Council’s grants programs.
Applications for the Community Development Fund and Events Support Fund open today.
Mayor Les McPhee said funding from the annual programs had the potential to make a huge difference to community groups and to their local communities.
“Last year, we helped fund a diverse range of projects like a defib machine for the Beverford and District Fire Brigade, upgrades to the Chinkapook Hall, repairs to the Lake Boga netball courts, target upgrades for the Robinvale Pistol Club and a new cash register for the Swan Hill District Health Ladies Auxiliary op shop,” Cr McPhee said.
“We also supported a wide range of events across the municipality including the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival, Manangatang Cup, Lake Boga Yacht Regatta and NAIDOC Week.”
“I look forward to seeing the applications that come in this year.”
Grants are now open through the:
- Community Development Fund
Up to $5,000 support for projects like structural repairs or minor upgrades to community facilities, OHS or risk management issues, promoting local sustainability initiatives, equipment upgrades or new programs and activities.
Groups and organisations applying through this fund must be based in Swan Hill Rural City Council or deliver services to the residents of our municipality and be an incorporated body or auspiced.
- Event Support Fund
Support for emerging local events that will benefit our community and region. Also includes local New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Event organisers can seek funding for new or emerging events or existing events that provide significant economic and/or social benefit to the region. Events are also encouraged to apply for Council logistical support (traffic management, signage etc) to ensure Council can allocate the resources required for all of the events across the municipality.
Cr McPhee said it was important that groups were aware of recent changes to grant timeframes.
“In previous years, Community Development Fund applications opened later in the year and event funding applications were accepted at any time. However for 2018/19, applications for both funds are open for the same six week period.
“It’s also important to note that funding for New Year’s Eve events must be applied for as part of the Event Support Fund too – the previous tender process will not occur.”
Applications can be made online and guidelines are available here. Applications for both funds close on Monday, 18 June.
